The Colorado School of Mines men's ultimate team competed at the Snow Melt Tournament on February 28 and March 1, putting together a strong weekend of competition and finishing fourth overall after entering the tournament seeded fifth.
Mines opened the tournament with an impressive 13 to 6 victory over Grinnell University. The team carried that momentum into their second game of the day, defeating the University of Denver 13 to 8 to start the weekend 2 and 0. In their final game on Saturday, Mines played a tightly contested match against Oklahoma Christian University but came up just short in a narrow 12 to 11 loss.
The team returned on Sunday ready to compete, earning a hard fought 15 to 13 win against Montana State University in their first game of the day. Mines continued to battle throughout the afternoon but dropped their next two matchups, falling 15 to 11 to Lewis and Clark College and 15 to 14 in another close contest against Oklahoma Christian.
Despite the challenging Sunday slate, Mines finished the tournament by breaking seed and placing fourth overall. Standout performances throughout the weekend came from Spencer Weldon, Quinton Lorentz, and Charlie Keigwin, who played key roles in the team's success.
The Mines B team also competed during the tournament, finishing 0 and 5 on the weekend. While the results did not fall their way, the squad played with determination and continued to improve with each game.
Overall, the Snow Melt Tournament provided a strong weekend of competition and valuable experience for the Mines program as they continue their season.
