The Colorado School of Mines Men's Rugby team put together a resilient performance at High Peaks 7s on April 4, finishing second overall after a full day of competition.
The day opened with a tough matchup against the University of Denver, where Mines fell 28–0 while still finding their rhythm early. However, the team responded immediately in their second game, bouncing back with a strong 24–5 win over UTEP. Mines set the tone early with fast, aggressive play and maintained control even after conceding a try before halftime.
Momentum continued to build in the third match as Mines defeated New Mexico Tech 29–19. The team came out firing, establishing an early lead and holding off a physical NMT side for the remainder of the game. In their fourth contest, Mines stayed consistent despite the midday heat, earning a 19–7 win over Colorado College with disciplined and steady play.
The tournament concluded with a rematch against Denver in the final. This time, Mines showed significant improvement, battling back from an early deficit and closing the gap late, but ultimately fell 28–19.
Despite the opening loss, Mines demonstrated grit and growth throughout the day, finishing 3–2 overall and securing second place, with their only losses coming against a strong Denver side. A competitive showing and a clear upward trajectory as the team looks ahead to the rest of the 7s season.
