PUEBLO, Colo. -
Lisa Sutherland's new program hurdles record highlighted the multi-events on the opening day of the 2026 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Pueblo.
Sutherland broke the longest-standing record - men's or women's - on the books at Mines with her 14.28-second start to the day in the 100m hurdles, surpassing Beth Polzin's time of 14.33 that had stood 39 years since 1987. It was a great beginning to Sutherland's Friday that saw her finish the day in second place through four events in the heptathlon.
Overall, Sutherland trails MSU Denver's Kathryn Rust by 32 points through the first day, scoring 3,035 points led by her 939-point hurdles performance and a personal-best 25.64-second 200m to add 829 more. In between, Sutherland went over 1.55m in the high jump (678 points) and 10.90m in the shot put (589 points).
Through five events in the decathlon,
Nick Stade is fifth with 3,621 points and
Vaughn Hafner is seventh at 3,453, with UCCS' Evan Atkin leading at 3,810.
Stade's day included a personal-best 11.07 100m dash (845), season-best 6.75m long jump (755) and 11.32m shot put (565), and a 1.85m high jump (670) before another season-best 50.63 in the 400m to add 786 points. Meanwhile, Hafner timed a season-best 11.35 in the 100m (784), personal-best 6.26m in the long jump (644), took first in the shot put at 13.03m (669), went out at 1.88 in the high jump (696), and ran a season-best 53.51 in the 400m (660).
The multis conclude Saturday starting at 9:30 a.m., with the meet beginning at 8 a.m. with the 10,000m finals.
