Day 2 Results

GOLDEN, Colo.
- Colorado School of Mines crowned four champions on the second day of the 2026 RMAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, pushing the men into the team lead.

Paul Knight started the day with an emphatic 10,000m win, Max Bonenberger and Sierra Wall swept the 3,000m steeplechase titles, and Aidan Bennett secured the pole vault gold to lead a day with plenty of podium performances for the Orediggers.

With eight men's events scored, Mines leads the competition with 88 team points ahead of UCCS (71) and CSU Pueblo (35), while the Oredigger women are second with 40 points behind UCCS (78) and leading CSUP (29) with six events scored.

The morning began with a podium sweep of the men's 10K led by Knight in 30:16.14, followed by silver medalist Jeremiah Vaille (30:19.19) and bronze winner Rowan Nicholas (a personal-best 30:35.15), and going on to score 30 team points from the event as Cody Wyman was fifth (31:02.04) and Braden Struhs seventh (31:19.95). Callen Nash grabbed the women's silver medal in 36:52.54, with Maria Forster running 15th in 38:39.87.

The only other Saturday track finals were in the steeplechase, and the races were owned by Orediggers as Bonenberger led four Mines scorers in the men's competition winning in 9:00.48. Charlie Welch ran a season-best 9:11.89 for fourth, Garrett Mackey 9:14.07 for fifth, and Cole Fiorillo 9:18.52 for fifth to land another 22 team points for the men. On the women's side, Wall and Margaux Basart both earned podium spots as Wall cruised to victory in 10:39.31 and Basart closed in 10:54.51 for bronze.

Bennett prevailed on a challenging day for pole vault as winds muted performances, with only eight vaulters in a 19-man field recording heights. Both Bennett and South Dakota Mines' Logan Haynie made 4.87m but Bennett won on fewer misses; Kai Miller cleared 4.62m for sixth and Kellar Cimini 4.47m for seventh to add valuable team points. For Bennett, it marks a 2026 sweep of RMAC golds after he also won the indoor title in February.

Lisa Sutherland wrapped up the heptathlon with a silver medal, scoring a career-best (and third-best in program history) total of 4,959 points. Sutherland marked 5.25m in the long jump and then personal bests in both the javelin (31.95m) and 800m (2:23.11). Nick Stade rose to finish fourth in the decathlon, keyed by his 15.70-second 110m hurdles and 4.44m pole vault performances to score a new personal-best 6,404 points. Vaughn Hafner finished ninth with another personal-best of 6,074 points, adding big performances in the discus (a competition-best 38.88m) and javelin (44.04m) and clearing a PR of 3.74m in the pole vault.

In field finals, Violet Williams picked up silver in the long jump, leading until the final round with a pair of 5.98m jumps, Kelle Vernon finished 17th at 5.29m. Alejandro Philippart recorded 7.06m for sixth in the men's long jump with Zander Besch finishing ninth at 6.97m.

Cade Whish popped a big collegiate best to take fourth in the discus, one of two Oredigger scorers also with Keaton Reiman's PR to finish seventh. Whish marked 48.35m - more than a meter and a half over his previous best - while Reiman reached 47 meters for the first time at 47.21m. Chandler Smoak was 13th (43.89m) and Jonah Pfender 14th (43.62m); Pfender had earlier taken fourth in the men's shot put with a 15.76m toss, with Whish also scoring a point thanks to his eighth-place 15.16m best. Reiman was 10th (14.34m) with Hayden Swim 15th (13.65m). Julianne Sugimae was 13th in the women's discus with a 38.36m best, while Jennifer Jarnagin completed the shot put in 14th (11.24m) ahead of Violet Mazenko in 21st (10.84m).
