GOODYEAR, Ariz. - Freshman
Liam Allan captured the RJGA Palm Valley Classic individual title, winning in a playoff to lead Colorado School of Mines in the final round.
Allan sank a 15-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to prevail over Chico State's Naoki Easterday following a dramatic afternoon of movement atop the leaderboard. Allan surged into a tie for the lead at -12 with four birdies in a six-hole span around the turn, and that at one point grew into a four-way tie before Easterday, Texas A&M International's Elvis Steen, and CSU Pueblo's Marius Dosiere had late bogeys to leave Allan the clubhouse leader by a stroke. Easterday, however, was in the final group on course and made his birdie at 18 to force the playoff.
After shooting 65 in Monday's second round, Allan had a 67 on Tuesday. He becomes the first Mines freshman to win a tournament since Tim Amundson in the 2018 Bob Writz Invitational, and he's the first tournament winner in any class since Amundson won the 2020 Mile High Shootout as a senior.
