GOLDEN, Colo. - Program records by the men's 4x400 relay and
Lily Cobb in the javelin highlighted a terrific day at Stermole Track in the Mines Midweek & Multi.
The 4x400 relay of
Liam Currie,
Jonah Fallon,
Tim Thompson, and
Elijah Quinby produced a stunning RMAC record of 3:06.47, smashing the program record that was set in 2001 by exactly four seconds and the conference mark that had stood since 2019 by two seconds. Their time ranks #17 all-time in NCAA Division II and #2 this season as they dueled with Colorado State in a fast race, pushed by Fallon's impressive unofficial second-leg split of 44.81.
Cobb, a freshman making her attached debut for the Orediggers, threw 43.29m to break Amanda Giles' Mines record of 41.87m set in 2018. Cobb surpassed 40 meters four times in her field series to finish fourth amongst a mostly D-I field of Colorado State and Air Force throwers.
Jennifer Jarnagin threw a season-best 58.15m - her second-best career mark - in the hammer throw to place second against top D-I competition.
Audrey Ott hit a career-best 49.47m for ninth in the invitational section, as well, moving her into a tie for seventh all-time at Mines.
Aani Hardesty set the #2 400m hurdles time in program history and a personal-best with her 59.74 showing, becoming only the second order to run under a minute.
Alejandro Philippart led a fast group of Mines 110m hurdlers with a career-best 14.20 seconds, tying him as the #3 performer all-time at Mines, while
Dominik Davis ran 14.58,
Cooper McGinnis 14.69,
Mason Znamenacek 14.95, and
Eli Meyer 15.03.
Chloe Hawkins ran 15.95 in the women's 100m hurdles.
Tegan Daughters led Mines' 100m runners with a third-place 10.88 time, with
Eric Hill Jr. clocking 10.97 and
Bode Adeleke 11.28.
Jathan Busby led the men's 200m at 21.85 while
Maya Evans ran a 26.17. In the men's 400m dash,
Logan Meade ran 48.26,
Alex Dusseau 48.89,
Tim Thompson 49.07, and
Ollie Sehr 49.76, while on the women's side,
Imani Fernandez-Gorbea ran a personal-best 56.74,
Elizabeth Prescott went 57.87, and
Avary Catchings 58.02.
Keaton Reiman won the open section of the men's hammer unleashing a huge personal-best of 52.23m on his fifth attempt, with
Chandler Smoak throwing 42.63m and
Landon Mays 40.64m;
Megan Hopp threw 29.16m in the women's hammer.
Kolby Denke went 57.80m as the the top D-II throwers in the men's javelin.
After setting the Mines indoor record in the long jump this past winter,
Violet Williams opened her outdoor season with an NCAA-provisional 5.93m mark, immediately putting her #3 all-time in program history outdoors.
Zander Besch marked 13.38m in the men's triple jump while
Kelle Vernon had a 10.93m best in the women's event.
Through four events,
Lisa Sutherland leads the heptathlon with 3,010 points, setting personal bests in the high jump (1.57m) and 200m (25.68) along with strong performances in the 100m hurdles (14.71) and shot put (11.14m) to lead Wyoming's Desirae Iacovetto by 86 points. In the decathlon,
Nick Stade is second and
Vaughn Hafner third with 3,489 and 3,304 points, respectively, at the halfway mark. Their biggest points came in the 100m dash with Stade running 11.41 and Hafner 11.69; Hafner also led the field in the shot put at 13.30m and Stade cleared 1.90m and Hafner 1.93m in the high jump to highlight the day.
The multis will wrap up Thursday starting at 12:30 p.m. Mines will stay home for the weekend to host the one-day Kit Mayer Classic Saturday.
