GRAND JUNCTION – A trio of Orediggers were named to the RMAC All-Tournament team over the weekend after the Colorado School of Mines baseball team's Cinderella run to the championship game.
Evan Bilter,
Alex Dunagan, and
Alex Honeyman each claimed RMAC All-Tournament distinction thanks to their outstanding postseason performances. It marked the first-career all-tournament nods for all three Orediggers. The teams were voted on by media and tournament staff in attendance throughout the week. Colorado Mesa's Kolby Felix won MVP after CMU hoisted the RMAC Cup. Other members of the team included Joey Blank (Colorado Mesa), Rafael Espinoza (Colorado Mesa), Tate Blasi (Colorado Mesa), Jackson Lapiner (Colorado Mesa), Brayden Oram (MSU Denver), and Tyler Genrich (UCCS).
Bilter's all-tournament nod came after he batted .409 across five games, totaling nine runs on nine hits including two doubles, one triple, and one home run with six RBI. He was also hit by a pitch four times while posting a .500 on-base percentage. Dunagan hit .458 with 10 runs on 11 this including three doubles and five home runs with 16 RBI. His final slugging percentage in the tournament was 1.208 and his on-base percentage was .500. The Texan stole three bases on three attempts as well. Honeyman was arguably the cream of the crop after he tossed a nine-inning complete game on Friday to send Mines on to Championship Saturday. The San Antonio, Texas, native allowed just one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and zero walks while holding CSU Pueblo to a .133 batting average. He did not surrender any hits for extra bases.
Other notable performances that didn't quite make the cut for all-tournament status came from
Tyler Pina,
Nicholas Spidel and
Tai Nguyen. Pina led the Orediggers with a .550 batting average after starting all five games. He scored nine runs on 11 hits with one double, three home runs, and 11 RBI. Pina walked three times and stole a base as well. His slugging percentage came in at 1.050 and his on-base percentage was .560. Pina fielded 1.000 on defense as well. Spidel came out of the bullpen in four of the five games, totaling 8.1 innings of relief while going 1-0 for Mines. He struck out three and walked three while giving up just one hit for extra bases. Nguyen gave the Orediggers three relief appearances including two saves. He totaled 1.1 innings of no-hit work out of the bullpen.
Mines won three straight elimination games before falling to top-seeded and #1-ranked Colorado Mesa in the championship game. The Orediggers' season ended with the loss. They now await additional postseason awards including academic, all-region, and all-America honors which will be announced at
