GOLDEN, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines head softball coach
Tobin Echo-Hawk as announced that Samantha Whitworth will join the program ahead of the 2027 season as the program's top assistant coach.
"Sam is a tremendous addition to our staff. She brings knowledge, energy and a competitive mindset that align perfectly with the direction of our program," said Echo-Hawk. "Most importantly, she cares about developing our student-athletes both on and off the field. We're excited to have her in Golden, and can't wait to get to work."
Whitworth spent the previous two seasons on staff at Minnesota State University Moorhead where she worked primarily with the Dragons' pitching staff. She also served the program's operations coordinator where she coordinated team travel and budgeting as well as alumni and community engagement efforts. During her time in Moorhead, Whitworth worked with three All-NSIC selections including 2025 First Team pitcher/outfielder Avery Steffen who was a five-game winner with three saves and a 4.38 ERA with 84 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched.
Prior to joining MSUM, Whitworth served as the volunteer assistant coach as her alma mater, the University of Saint Katherine, where she worked with the Firebirds pitching staff alongside current Regis head coach Candi Letts. As a student-athlete, she was part of a Cal Pac Conference championship team in 2021 and was named the team's Champion of Character in 2022. Whitworth holds two degrees from USK with a Bachelor's in Kinesiology and a Master's in Organizational Leadership.
