World Athletics U20 Championships site

EUGENE, Ore. - Colorado School of Mines' Sierra Wall is set to compete at this week's World Athletics U20 Championships, running in the 3,000m steeplechase at Oregon's Hayward Field. 

Wall will take part in the preliminaries of the steeplechase on Wednesday at 6:55 p.m. Pacific, hoping to qualify for Friday's final which will go off at 7:42 p.m. Pacific. The meet is streaming live on Peacock.

A rising sophomore at Mines, Wall punched her ticket to U20 Worlds thanks to her American championship on June 18, also at Hayward Field, where she ran a lifetime-best 10:08.30. The Boulder native enters Worlds ranked 11th out of 29 on the performance list, with heat sheets set to be announced Tuesday night at worldathletics.org. She will be joined in the steeplechase by fellow American Arabella Nelson (Oklahoma State) as the duo were the top two finishers at the USATF U20 Championships. Wall is no stranger to representing the United States in international competition, having competed in the International U18 Mountain Running Cup in Spain and placing 13th as a high schooler in 2024.

Wall was a three-season all-American in 2025-26, finishing 20th at the NCAA cross country championship, seventh indoors in the 5,000m, and second outdoors in the steeplechase behind teammate Emily LaMena, while winning the RMAC steeplechase title and RMAC Freshman of the Year honors along the way.
