The Colorado School of Mines Club Cycling team took on a competitive field from across the Rocky Mountain collegiate region over the weekend at Powderhorn Mountain Resort, racing through two days of mountain biking competition.

Saturday's events featured Dual Slalom and Short Track racing, with several Orediggers turning in strong performances against a deep regional field.

Ben Mackenzie led Mines in the Men's Cat. 1/2 Dual Slalom, finishing fifth, while Joey Kan earned sixth in the Men's Cat. 3 Dual Slalom. Maren Plumb also competed in the Women's Open Dual Slalom, placing 23rd.

In Short Track competition, Dawson Sennes posted a sixth-place finish in the Men's Cat. 3 race, while Mahika Peterson finished 11th in the Women's Cat. 1 field. James Wilkie placed 23rd in Men's Cat. 2, and Myles Scott finished 26th in Men's Cat. 1.

Mines also picked up a pair of victories on Saturday. Anna Haemer dominated the Women's Cat. 2 Short Track race, winning by 48 seconds. The Orediggers also saw Julia Barna finish sixth in the Women's Cat. 3 race.

Sunday brought more challenging conditions to Powderhorn. The scheduled downhill competition was canceled due to lightning and rain, but racers were able to complete the Cross Country Olympic (XCO) events in the morning before the weather moved in.

Haemer continued her strong weekend by winning the Women's Cat. 2 XCO race by more than a minute. Kate Rizzo joined her on the podium with a third-place finish in the same division, while Peterson placed 14th in Women's Cat. 1.

Sennes once again earned sixth place, this time in the Men's Cat. 3 XCO race. Julian Facciolo finished 20th in Men's Cat. 2, while Blake Hoffer placed 33rd in Men's Cat. 1.

Despite the canceled downhill race and difficult weather, the Orediggers embraced the conditions and made the most of the weekend, competing through mud and rain while gaining valuable race experience against teams from throughout the Rocky Mountain collegiate region.

Mines Club Cycling returns to competition looking to build on a weekend highlighted by strong individual performances, two victories and plenty of experience racing in challenging mountain conditions.
