OREDIGGERS OPEN SEASON AT TRAVIS ROY MEMORIAL
The 2026-27 college golf season tees off for Colorado School of Mines this weekend as they take part in the Travis Roy Memorial at Powder Horn GC in Wyoming. The three-day tournament will see Mines get an early look at their RMAC competition in a return to where they also began the 2025-26 season.

THE TOURNAMENT
Much of the RMAC will join the Orediggers in their season opener, with host South Dakota Mines alone with Colorado Christian, Fort Lewis, Colorado Mesa, CSU Pueblo, and Westminster in attendance, along with regional opponents Texas A&M International, Westmont, West Texas A&M, Montana State Billings, and Augustana. The 54-hole, three-day tournament features a "play six, count four" format. Sunday's first round tee times begin at 11 a.m., and Monday's second round and Tuesday's third round are yet to be set.

THE FORECAST
Weather conditions should be ideal this week with partly-cloudy highs in the low 80s on Sunday, and sunny and mid-70s on Monday and Tuesday with afternoon breezes each day.

THE COURSE
Located in northern Wyoming near the Montana border, Powder Horn has 27 holes in a picturesque setting at the base of the Bighorn Mountains. This year's tournament will use all three nines, rotating on a daily basis. Opened in 1997, the course is rated as Golfweek's #1 course in the state, playing 6,934 yards at par 72.

LAST YEAR
Mines finished sixth at the 2025 Travis Roy Memorial, led by Lukas Taggart in 21st place individually. Then-freshmen Liam Allan and Giacomo Gaggero finished T27 (+7) and T30 (+8), respectively, as the only two carryovers to this year's lineup.

PRESEASON HONORS
Sophomores Liam Allan and Enzo Martínez were named to the Preseason Men's Golf All-RMAC team in August, recognizing them as two of the top returners in the league. Allan was the RMAC Freshman of the Year and a Second-Team All-RMAC pick last spring, qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships as an individual after finishing as the runner-up at the RMAC Championships. He led Mines in scoring (72.83) and had five top-10s and four top-5s topped by a victory at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. Martínez was also a Second-Team All-RMAC selection, working his way into the lineup as a freshman to become of the team's top contributors in the spring. Martínez averaged 72.92 across seven tournaments and had four top-10 finishes, including T8 at the RMAC Championships.

IN THE POLLS
The Orediggers were chosen third in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll behind Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo, and tied with Colorado Christian. Mines also received votes in the first Bushnell/Golfweek D-II Coaches' Top-25 Poll, which included #16 West Texas A&M, #18 Colorado Christian, #19 CSU Pueblo, and #22 Colorado Mesa among this week's participating teams.

WHAT'S AHEAD
The Orediggers' fall continues Sept. 21-22 at the San Juan Intercollegiate in Montrose, Colo., before heading to the Hrnciar Invitational in Oklahoma Oct. 5-6 and then the Otter Invitational in California Oct. 11-13.
