BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A tightly-contested match between regional rivals resulted in a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon between the Colorado School of Mines women's soccer team and Western Washington. After the Vikings (2-1-2) got on the board first thanks to an own goal, the Orediggers (4-1-1) rallied in the closing minutes for the second time on their west coast road trip as
Allyson Townsend's 87th minute score earned the draw.
It may have owed to the 11 a.m. local start time Sunday, but the first half of action didn't yield much for either side as 45 minutes came and went with no change to the score. Eight of the nine combined first half shots missed their mark, with the lone ball on frame in the 44th minute saved by Ellie McGowan off the foot of
Bella Campos.
Chances continued to be hard to come by in the second half, as
Lindsay Jeans put the second shot on frame of the match up in the 64th minute but found the hands of McGowan instead of the net. It was after that try that the Vikings started enforcing their will in the midfield and put the Orediggers on their heels defensively. WWU's pressure finally resulted in a defensive misplay by the Orediggers in the 78th minute that proved to be decisive. A cross by Triya Mitchell off the end line on the near side of the field was misplayed by Rouse on the near post, as the ball deflected off her and past the reach of Davenport-Murrish on the back post for the go-ahead score.
As fate would have it, the soccer gods took favor on the Orediggers as they knotted things up at 1-1 in the 86th minute. A long ball from
Gaby Guerrero on Mines' side of midfield was won down by Campos amidst two WWU defenders and the goalie McGowan atop the penalty area. Having drawn the attention of all the Vikings in the area, Campos slipped a pass left to
Allyson Townsend who finished of the sequence with an uncontested tap-in goal for her second equalizer in the last two matches. After a near-miss by Ruby Seffner off the post in the 89th minute, a last-ditch shot by Western Washington's Layne Davis in the final seconds was on target but handled by Davenport-Murrish as time expired soon after on the draw.

-Campos recorded her third assist of the weekend and fifth of the season as she extended her point streak to five matches
-Campos also takes over sole possession of fifth all-time at Mines in assists with the 20th of her career and becomes the fifth player with 20 or more assists in a career, joining Acacia Ortiz, Anna Evans, Emily Garnier and Megan Woodworth
-Davenport-Murrish recorded her eighth save of the season Sunday
-Mines was outshot in a match for the first time this season Sunday by WWU 14-9 and held to single-digit shot attempts for the first time in 2026 as well
