Mines opened exhibition play against Colorado State University (Division 2), falling 7-4 in a competitive matchup.

The Orediggers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 35 seconds into the first period when Ripken Renner found the back of the net. Mines held Colorado State scoreless for the remainder of the opening period, taking the lead into the first intermission.

The second period featured plenty of offense from both sides, with the teams battling to a 3-3 tie. Blake Postles and Drew Brekken each added goals for Mines to keep the Orediggers within striking distance heading into the final period.

Colorado State pulled away in the third, outscoring Mines 4-1. Renner added his second goal of the game for the Orediggers, but Colorado State's offensive push proved too much as Mines ultimately fell 7-4.

Despite the loss, Mines showed strong offensive pressure throughout the game, with Renner scoring twice and Postles and Brekken each adding a goal in the exhibition matchup.
