WEEKEND FORECAST
It should be a terrific Colorado fall day Sunday in Durango, with mostly clear skies and a high of 73 with winds out of the west at 12 miles per hour.

AT THE HELM
2026 marks the 17th season leading Mines for Kevin Fickes, the program's winningest head coach. With a career mark of 260-45-46 (.808), he ranks eighth in all of the NCAA and fourth in Division II among head coaches with at least five years of experience when it comes to winning percentage. One of two RMAC coaches with 200 career victories, under his direction Mines has overseen 41 All-America selections, 21 Academic All-America selections, 93 all-conference honorees and 34 RMAC major award winners. Fickes has also guided Mines to seven RMAC regular season titles and 10 RMAC Tournament crowns and made 16 consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances.

WEEK 3 RECAP
Mines went 1-0-1 on their west coast road trip to Chico State and Western Washington over the weekend to conclude non-conference play. Thursday night against the Wildcats, the Orediggers posted a wild 4-3 comeback winner as a combined four goals were scored in the final 10:46 of the match. Bella Campos had a brace with two assists, scoring the opening goal before netting the first equalizer in the 80th minute on a PK. After CSU retook the lead in the 81st minute, Allyson Townsend scored the second equalizer from Campos in the 86th minute. Caelan DeBolt played the hero, scoring the game-winning goal at 88:51 moments after missing a second penalty kick awarded to Mines down the stretch.

Saturday against the Vikings was decidedly less action-filled, but still have tense moments as Mines came away with a 1-1 draw. An own-goal by the Orediggers in the final 30 minutes seemed to give WWU the edge, but again Campos teamed up with Townsend in the final moments of regulation to tie the match and avert calamity.

THE CAPTAINS
A seasoned group of veterans will be wearing the "C" this fall for the Orediggers. Bella Campos and Natalie Rouse enter their second seasons as captains, while Gaby Guerrero rounds out the on-field leadership group. Campos is coming off her second consecutive RMAC Player of the Year award after scoring 20 goals with four assists for 44 points. Rouse, who missed most of 2024 with injury, returned in 2025 to earn her second RMAC Defensive Player of the Year award after scoring five times from her center back position and anchoring a defense that posted nine shutouts. Guerrero was named Honorable Mention All-RMAC last fall as a standout midfielder who scored twice with an assist.

IN THE POLLS
Mines topped August's RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll followed closely by Colorado Mesa and UCCS. Fort Lewis and Regis rounded out the top five followed by Westminster, MSU Denver, Colorado Christian, CSU Pueblo and Western Colorado in the top 10. Adams State, Black Hills State and New Mexico Highlands rounded out the 13-team rankings.

FIVE YEARS OF ELIGIBILITY PASSES
In early August, NCAA Division II passed a sweeping change to eligibility rules that now gives all student-athletes five seasons of eligibility in a five-year span, and eliminates redshirting. It will apply to this year's incoming freshmen, and returning players can either convert to the new rule or be grandfathered into continuing with the old four-year model, whichever is more beneficial. The new rules supersede the previous freshman rule that allowed them to play in up to four games while still redshirting.

NCAA CHANGES POSTSEASON PROCESS
Another significant change coming to NCAA Division II is how they select the postseason championship field. Playoff selections will now be handled solely by the NCAA Power Index (NPI) instead of regional committees, removing the human element from the process; NPI takes into account winning percentage and strength of schedule, quality wins, and home/away weights, rewarding challenging schedules and road wins more so than in years past.

HELLO THERE
12 newcomers joined the Orediggers for the upcoming season. Mid-year spring arrivals Bella Torres and Gwen McAllister are joined by Addison Bailey, Brekyn Davenport-Murrish, Molly Elder, Gabby Herfindahl, Lucy Hays, Haliya Jabel, Shyla Kalpathy, Madisen Powers, Veronica Weston and Skyla Yu. Read more about each of the newcomers here.

NCAA ACTIVE CAREER SCORING LEADER
Heading into week four of the season, Bella Campos continues to lead all levels of NCAA soccer in both goals scored and points. With all three divisions having started competition following last weekend (Division III was the last to start), Campos is the only player in the entire country with more than 50 career goals, as she sits with 55 after a hot start to 2026. Eowyn Lapp of Division III Gordon is the next closest at 46, as she's one ahead of Bree Ehmer of Division II Catawba. Alabama's Larkin Thompson is the top Division I player with 43 goals. Shifting to look at points, Campos is also the only active player with more than 120 points as she sits with 127. Jordan Lange of DIII North Central is second with 110, while the next closest DII player is Gannon's Brooklyn Respecki with 107. The first DI player on the list is once again Thompson, who has 102 points and is current the sixth and final active player with 100 or more career points.

ONE OF THE BEST
Bella Campos has long since cemented herself as one of the greatest offensive players in Mines program history, and on the Orediggers west coast road trip continued her climb up the all-time ranks. After scoring two more times and adding three assists, Campos now has 57 career goals, 20 career assists and 134 career points. She's taken over sole possession of second in both goals and points from Anna Evans (2010-13) and moved past Reese McDermott (2021-24) and Kaitlyn Manalili (2022-25) into fifth in assists. In doing so, Campos is the fifth player in program history with 20 or more assists in a career and is now two back of Acacia Ortiz (2015-18) for fourth and three behind Evans for third. Additionally, Campos's 263 shots are good for fourth on the all-time list. Perhaps the most impressive number is the fact that Campos has scored on 57 of the 124 shots on goal she's taken in her career. That latter number still ranks fifth all-time and is 11 back of Megan Woodworth (2009-12)'s total of 135. For those keeping track at home, that is a .471 scoring rate in her career when Campos puts a ball on frame.

TOWNSEND TIME
After appearing in 19 matches to begin her career and taking just one shot on goal without finding the net, Allyson Townsend has erupted the last two weeks, scoring three times with five shots on goal including two match-tying goals on the most recent road trip against Chico State and Western Washington. Townsend also penned her name into the Mines records Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, with her goal at 85:30 against the Wildcats going down as the fourth-latest in program history while her tally against the Vikings at 85:13 as the sixth-latest all-time.

DON'T DWELL ON IT
Caelan DeBolt experienced both ends of the emotional spectrum Thursday night in a matter of 61 seconds. After Mines was awarded a PK at 87:50 in the second half in a 3-3 match, DeBolt stepped up to the spot but had her shot saved by Chico State goalie Charlotte Mailer. After seeing a chance at a win perhaps slip by the wayside, DeBolt got another crack at things almost immediately afterwards. After a punt downfield by Mailer was won down by Jordan Bowermaster, she played ahead to Bella Campos at the top of the penalty area. Campos, having drawn a crowd to her, slipped a pass to DeBolt who finished on the back post for the game-winner at 88:51, the fifth-latest regulation game-winning score in program history. Just goes to show, redemption sometimes doesn't take long to come back around.

CHECKING THE STATS
Seven Orediggers have scored this fall led by Bella Campos and her seven goals. Campos also leads the team with five assists for 19 points. SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
Fort Lewis is yet unbeaten in 2026 and is coming off a 2-0 non-conference win against Adams State Sunday. They'll host UCCS Friday night to begin their weekend before taking on Mines Sunday.

Addyson Carpentier has two goals and an assist while another freshman, Kadyn Begay, rounds out the scoring with a single goal. Three other FLC players have points by way of assists, as freshman Maleia Dayao and Jenna Salazar have two apiece while Kailin Gudewicz has one. In goal it has been all Trinity Lujan in five matches to start off. In 450 minutes, she's made 19 saves against two goals allowed while facing 54 shots and recording three clean sheets on her way to a .905 save percentage and a 0.40 goals against average.

On the year, Fort Lewis has outscored teams 6-2 and averages 12.2 shots per match while allowing 10.8 on defense. They have six assists on their six goals, and have 19 saves in goal. The last time the team met in Durango was in the 2024 regular season which saw the Orediggers roll to a 5-1 win and included a goal by Gaby Guerrero and two assists by Bella Campos.
