WEST COAST LIVIN'
Mines volleyball is headed to the West Coast to compete at Cal State East Bay's Invitational this week. The Orediggers open their trip Thursday at 4 p.m. PT against San Francisco State. They play two on Friday against Northern Michigan and Cal State East Bay at 10 a.m. PT and 3 p.m. PT, respectively. Mines closes the weekend Saturday morning with a 10:30 a.m. PT showdown against Westmont.

RMAC NETWORK
The RMAC Network continues to have a pay-per-view model for all events. SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
San Francisco State started its 2026 campaign 0-3 at Central Washington's Invitational last weekend. They fell in three sets to a CWU team that is now nationally ranked. The Gators were also swept by #15 Simon Fraser before falling in four sets to #20 Western Washington. Northern Michigan went 2-2 at its own UP North Tournament. The Wildcats defeated Winona State, 3-1, before losing to #5 St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth which is receiving votes in the national poll. Northern Michigan finished the weekend with a sweep of Tiffin. Cal State East Bay was also at NMU's tournament and went 0-3. The Pioneers fell in straight sets to St. Cloud State, Minnesota Duluth and Michigan Tech. Westmont's first weekend of action resulted in one win and three losses. Cal State San Bernardino, Cal Poly Pomona, and Seattle Pacific all took matches off the Warriors at CSUSB's tournament. Westmont bounced back late Saturday with a five-set victory against Cal Sate L.A.
 
SERIES HISTORIES
Mines is 0-1 all-time against San Francisco State. The lone meeting between Mines and SFSU was in 2023 at the Oredigger Volleyball Classic where the Gators won in straight sets before eventually advancing to the NCAA tournament. Friday marks the first-ever matchup between Mines and Northern Michigan in volleyball. The Orediggers and Cal State East Bay faced off once before. It was at the 2018 edition of Mines' invitational and the home team won in four sets. The Orediggers' are also 1-0 all-time against Westmont after the two teams played last season in Nampa, Idaho at Northwest Nazarene in a match that last just three sets. That brings Mines' all-time record against its opposition this week to 2-1.
 
LOOKING BACK
Last weekend, Mines opened the 2026 season by hosting the 21st edition of the Oredigger Volleyball Classic. Mines was the de facto winner of the tournament as the only team to go 4-0. The Orediggers started with a 3-1 win against Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday evening. They swept Cal State Dominguez Hills and Flagler on Friday. In the event finale, Mines handled Rockhurst, 3-1. Across three days and four matches, the Orediggers posted a .315 attack percentage and held their opponents to a .165 mark thanks to 177 total digs and 38 total blocks. Individually, Jenna McLaughlin and Kaiya Gilbert were Mines' leaders. McLaughlin produced 50 kills on .413 hitting and added 20 total blocks. Gilbert averaged 10.79 assists per set, had 10 total blocks with 28 digs, seven kills, and three service aces.
 
EARLY ACCOLADES
Orediggers are already raking in awards just one week into the season. Jenna McLaughlin was named to the Oredigger Volleyball Classic All-Tournament team before earning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week. Kaiya Gilbert claimed RMAC Setter of the Week as well. McLaughlin's winning resume featured 50 kills on .413 hitting thanks to just five attack errors across 14 sets. She also had 20 total blocks at 1.43 blocks per set which rank #1 in the RMAC. Gilbert produced 151 assists while averaging 10.79 assists per set with seven kills on .375 hitting, three aces, 28 digs, and 10 total blocks. The award is Gilbert's first as a true freshman. McLaughlin's defensive nod was the second of her career.
 
STARTING 4-0
After another successful Oredigger Volleyball Classic, Mines is 4-0 for a second straight season. The last time the Orediggers started 4-0 in back-to-back seasons was 2015-16. They won the RMAC regular-season title in 2015 and won the RMAC Tournament in 2016 – playing in the NCAA tournament both years. Nationally, with 229 NCAA Division II teams ranked, Mines is one of just 49 programs to start 2026 undefeated and one of 32 teams with a start of 4-0, or better.
 
IN THE POLLS
Mines continued receiving votes in the AVCA-Taraflex Division II Poll presented by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association. The Orediggers initially earned 23 points on the preseason list which was equivalent to #35 in the nation. After their 4-0 start to the year, Mines collected 33 points which moved the squad to #33 nationally. Other RMAC and South Central Region teams in the latest national rankings included #7 MSU Denver, #14 Angelo State, and t#25 West Texas A&M.
 
AT THE HELM
The 2026 season marks the 19th with Jamie Magalei at the helm for Mines volleyball. She's the program's all-time leader in total wins (388-147) and win percentage (.725) by a large margin. Magalei is also the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. Furthermore, the North Dakota native entered the 2026 season ranked 18th in winning percentage and 38th in total wins among active DII head coaches. She surpassed 300 career wins in 2021. She's one of six to reach the milestone while coaching in the RMAC. Through the 2025 season, Magalei has coached 32 all-America selections, three CSC Academic All-Americans, and 72 all-conference performers. Her resume also includes three Regional Players of the Year, two Regional Freshmen of the Year, and 16 RMAC major award winners. Magalei has guided Mines to six RMAC regular-season championships, and five RMAC Tournament titles with 13 consecutive NCAA tournament appearances from 2009-22 (no NCAA tournament in 2020) and 14 overall. She also guided the Orediggers to either a conference regular-season or tournament title every season from 2012-21 including a sweep of both in 2015.
 
MAGALEI LEADS THE RMAC
As referenced above, Mines Head Coach Jamie Magalei is the longest-tenured and winningest head coach among current RMAC skippers. At 388-147 (.725) overall, she's nearly 200 wins ahead of Grayson DuBose at Black Hills State who is just in his second season at BHSU but his 16th overall. Magalei's also nearly 200 wins ahead of Colorado Christian's Bobby Blanken who entered his 10th season at CCU with 192 victories. Regis' Joel List is also entering his 10th season at Regis which ties him and Blanken for the second-longest tenure in the RMAC among active head coaches. List also ranks second in overall winning percentage behind Magalei at .674.

After California, Mines returns to Colorado to begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The Orediggers host UCCS on Friday at 6 p.m. before playing at #7 MSU Denver on Saturday at 4 p.m.
