OREDIGGERS HEAD WEST FOR SAN JUAN INTERCOLLEGIATE
Coming off a superb second-place finish in their season opener, Colorado School of Mines heads back on the road to the San Juan Intercollegiate in Montrose this week. The Orediggers will send 11 players to the 54-hole tournament hoping to carry forward the momentum gained from their hot start to the fall.

THE TOURNAMENT
This week's field has a similar look to the Travis Roy Memorial as Mines takes on RMAC foes #18 Colorado Christian, Fort Lewis, #22 Colorado Mesa, and #19 CSU Pueblo along with #16 West Texas A&M, Texas A&M International, Western New Mexico, and Cal State Monterey Bay. Monday's 36 holes begin at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesday's final round at 9 a.m.

LAST WEEK
Mines started its season with a second-place finish at last week's Travis Roy Memorial in Wyoming, led by top-five finishes from Liam Allan and Davis Kushner. Allan was third and Kushner a career-best fourth while Giacomo Gaggero rose to 18th, Zach Shallat 23rd, and Enzo Martínez T35. The Orediggers picked up head-to-head wins over three teams ranked in the Bushnell/Golfweek preseason top-25, finishing behind only #18 Colorado Christian.

THE FORECAST
Monday will be a perfect day for 36 holes with a high of 79 under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday will see a change, however, as golfers will have to race to finish before afternoon storms move in.

THE COURSE
The Bridges Golf and Country Club is a Jack Nicklaus design surrounded by the stunning scenery of southwestern Colorado, including expansive views of the San Juan range. Mines will be well-accustomed to the elevation, which at 5,800' is nearly identical to the western suburbs of Denver. Built in 2005, the 7,100-yard, par-71 course features 17 bridges crossing its numerous water features, with water in play on 14 of the 18 holes. 

LAST YEAR
Mines finished seventh as a team at the 2025 San Juan Intercollegiate, led by top-10s from Liam Allan and Colt Tenpenny. Allan - highlighted by a second-round 64 - finished tied for fifth, and Tenpenny was tied for ninth. Giacomo Gaggero and Lucas Schulte were both T24 and Lukas Taggart was 44th.

PRESEASON HONORS
Sophomores Liam Allan and Enzo Martínez were named to the Preseason Men's Golf All-RMAC team in August, recognizing them as two of the top returners in the league. Allan was the RMAC Freshman of the Year and a Second-Team All-RMAC pick last spring, qualifying for the NCAA Regional Championships as an individual after finishing as the runner-up at the RMAC Championships. He led Mines in scoring (72.83) and had five top-10s and four top-5s topped by a victory at the RJGA Palm Valley Classic. Martínez was also a Second-Team All-RMAC selection, working his way into the lineup as a freshman to become of the team's top contributors in the spring. Martínez averaged 72.92 across seven tournaments and had four top-10 finishes, including T8 at the RMAC Championships. 

IN THE POLLS
The Orediggers were chosen third in the RMAC preseason coaches' poll behind Colorado Mesa and CSU Pueblo, and tied with Colorado Christian. Mines also received votes in the first Bushnell/Golfweek D-II Coaches' Top-25 Poll.

WHAT'S AHEAD
The Orediggers' fall continues next week with selected individuals competing at the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational, and the team returns to action at the Hrnciar Invitational in Oklahoma Oct. 5-6 and then the Otter Invitational in California Oct. 11-13.
