The Mines Club Ice Hockey team split its weekend series against Creighton, dropping the first game 5-3 before bouncing back with a 6-2 victory Saturday night to earn its first win of the season.

Mines opened the series Friday night with a 5-3 loss. The Orediggers battled to a 1-1 tie after the first period, with Nick Malaniuk finding the back of the net late in the frame. Creighton pulled ahead in the second period, with Kaden Dorwart adding a goal for Mines to make it a 4-2 game heading into the final period. Ripken Renner scored in the third, but the Orediggers were unable to complete the comeback.

Mines came out strong in the second game of the series, jumping out to a 2-0 lead after the first period behind goals from Ripken Renner and Kaden Dorwart. Sam Behler extended the lead in the second period with his first career goal, giving Mines a 3-1 advantage heading into the final frame.

The Orediggers continued to add to their lead in the third period. Devin Jeffcoat scored his first career goal, followed by two goals from Blake Postles to cap off the 6-2 victory. Ian Holcomb earned his first career win in net as Mines secured its first victory of the 2026-27 season and closed out the weekend on a strong note.
