Mines Club Baseball returns to the diamond this weekend for a three-game road series against the University of Colorado, with the Orediggers traveling to Boulder for games on Saturday and Sunday.
The weekend begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, Sept. 26, with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m. in Boulder. Mines and Colorado will return to the field for the second game of the doubleheader at 2 p.m. The series concludes Sunday, Sept. 27, with an 11 a.m. first pitch.
Mines enters the weekend after opening its fall competition against Colorado State on Sept. 20. The Orediggers battled the Rams to a 10-10 tie in the first game before falling 9-3 in the second contest.
Several Orediggers delivered strong individual performances in the opener. Carter Rohrig led Mines at the plate with three hits and two RBIs, including a double, as part of a 10-hit performance by the Oredigger offense. Roman Williams provided a strong start on the mound, throwing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit and striking out three.
Mines also showed its ability to respond late in games. After Colorado State erased an early Oredigger advantage with eight runs in the fifth inning, Mines entered the seventh trailing 9-7. The Orediggers answered with three runs in the top half of the inning to regain the lead before CSU scored once in the bottom half to produce the 10-10 final.
In the second game, Clark Shields went 2-for-2 to lead Mines offensively, while Max Bronson allowed no earned runs across 1.1 innings on the mound. The Oredigger pitching staff held CSU to only two hits in the contest.
With its opening weekend behind it, Mines now turns its attention to a full three-game series against Colorado. The Saturday doubleheader will give the Orediggers their first opportunity to string together multiple games against the same opponent this fall before wrapping up the weekend Sunday morning.
