GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines and Black Hills State had no lack of offensive chances, but neither side found the net in a scoreless draw at Stermole Stadium.
The Orediggers (5-1-2, 1-0-1 RMAC) outshot the unbeaten Yellow Jackets (5-0-3, 2-0-1 RMAC) by a 17-10 margin, but couldn't solve a defense headed by goalkeeper Rian Barthel, who made four saves and was helped by Mirabel Shellabarger's clearance off the line in the second half.
The Mines backline was equally stout, helped by the return of
Keira Garcia in goal as she stopped three shots.
Mines dominated the first-half possession as BHSU was content to play counter-attacking soccer, but neither side punched through in an end-to-end half. The second half picked up with quality chances for both teams; Mines' best chance came when
Natalie Rouse's far-post headed was cleared off the line by Shellabarger in the 63rd minute, and Ivy Agee hit the crossbar on a diving long-range shot in the 71st for the Yellow Jackets.
Bella Campos led all players with five shots. Mines led 7-3 in corners and held 54% of the match possession overall.
The Orediggers are back home Sunday to host Regis at noon.
