GOLDEN, Colo. — Mines Men's Rugby returns to action Saturday morning for one of the biggest rivalry matches on the schedule, taking on the University of Denver at 11 a.m. at IM North.
The Orediggers enter the matchup looking to respond after a 56–14 loss to Montana State in their home opener. While the result was not what Mines wanted, the match provided plenty of opportunities for the team to learn and improve heading into this weekend's rivalry contest.
Mines opened the season with a pair of High Peaks victories, defeating Colorado College 34–14 before earning a 43–17 road win over New Mexico Tech. The Orediggers then faced Montana State in their first D2 match, finding the try line through Nils Jerger and Jack Thome, with Will Skaar converting both scores.
Saturday's matchup against Denver brings a different level of familiarity and intensity. With the two programs separated by just a short distance, the rivalry has become a highly anticipated fixture on the Mines schedule and gives the Orediggers another opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition.
Mines will look to establish its physicality early, maintain possession and execute consistently as it looks to put last week's lessons into action. After a week of preparation, the Orediggers will be ready to compete from the opening whistle and fight through all 80 minutes.
Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at IM North.
