Mines opened the season with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Colorado College's club team. The Orediggers controlled possession for the majority of the match, setting the pace from the opening whistle.
Graham Shoaps, Tobias Johnson, and Mario Castro controlled the midfield and helped create several opportunities. James Hutson, Carter Servier, and Calvin Stewart put pressure on the Colorado College defense with multiple dangerous chances in the first half, but Mines couldn't find the back of the net.
The pressure continued into the second half as Mines generated even more chances and earned a penalty. Unfortunately, the shot found the crossbar, keeping the match scoreless.
Ben Bartels, Simon Carricaburu, Pascal Spangenburg, and Robbie Mabbs anchored a strong defensive effort, limiting opportunities on the other end. Ethan Kierstiens capped off the performance with his first clean sheet of the season.
A strong defensive performance and a promising start to the season.
