About Us
Mines Cheer is both a competitive and game-day oriented squad. With opportunities to cheer on a nationally-ranked Division II football program and compete among the top talent in cheerleading, Mines Cheer offers the best of both worlds while prioritizing the academic priorities of each student. We compete in Small Coed for both the Game Day and Traditional divisions at UCA College Nationals in Orlando, Fla. We are an integral part of Mines Athletics and dedicate our energy to supporting the Colorado School of Mines and the greater community of Golden.
Our team is comprised of up to 30 members including both coed partners and multi-base groups. Mines Cheer is coached by
Daniele Favata.
Squad Expectations
Mines Cheer welcomes individuals of all gender expressions with skills and enthusiasm including, but not limited to:
- Cheerleading, dance, and/or gymnastics background
- Strong physical condition
- A positive, enthusiastic attitude and dedicated individual
- Ability to manage time well
- A team player
- A desire to be a leader in the community
For our sideline squad, we are looking for athletes who have perfected basic game day skills such as toss extension, liberty pop offs, and toe touch basket tosses. In order to be a strong candidate for our competition squad, we look for individuals who have perfected full ups, inversions and weight transfer skills. If you have elite variations of these skills or collegiate skills such as rewinds or double downs, you have a higher likelihood of competing with Mines Cheer. We currently do not have any tumbling requirements; however, the more elite your tumbling skills are, the more likely you will be selected to compete. Most of our competition members have standing and running tucks, with our elite tumblers performing skills such Arabians and full twists.
New to tumbling? Don't sweat it! There's plenty of time to grow your tumbling skills during our weekly tumbling practices. Above all, we look for coachable athletes with potential to grow throughout their time as a Mines Cheerleader.
Time Commitment
Our team cheers during both football and basketball seasons with appearances at various campus and local events. The season begins with daily doubles in the month of August and runs through the end of March, including post-season games. Mines Cheerleaders are present at both home football games as well as men’s and women’s basketball games with the opportunity to travel to postseason games as well. Team members are required to uphold a commitment not only to competitive athleticism, but also to crowdleading, spirit raising, and school ambassadorship.
Cheerleaders are expected to balance their classes and exams in coordination with the practice times determined by the coach. Mines Cheerleaders practice a minimum of 3 times a week in the evenings as well as weekly strength and conditioning practices. A complete schedule and expectations agreement are provided upon making the team.
