Dr. Chloe Gustafson

Chloe Gustafson (PhD) joined the Mines cross country staff prior to the 2024-25 school year, making the 2024 season her first as a coach for the Orediggers.

Gustafson competed as a student-athlete at Mines from 2011-15. She was a two-time USTFCCCA All-American for the Orediggers including a seventh-place finish in the 3,000-meter run at the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships, and a 13th-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. Gustafson's all-American run in the 3K clocked in at 9:38.46 which stood as the program record for eight years and still ranks fourth in the program record book. The Lincoln, Neb., native also sits ninth in program history in the 10,000-meter run thanks to a 36:24.10 at the Mt. SAC Relays in 2014. That time also ranked second in program history for half a decade. Gustafson earned her bachelor's degree in geophysical engineering from Mines in 2015 before pursuing a master's degree at UC San Diego where she also competed at the NCAA Division II level. She received her master's degree in earth sciences from UC San Diego in 2016. In 2020, Gustafson completed her PhD in earth and environmental sciences at Columbia University.
