Phil Schneider joined the Orediggers' cross country coaching staff in August of 2019.

Schneider served on the 2019 staff that saw the Oredigger men win their second NCAA Division II National Championship while the women finished third in the nation for their first podium finish in program history. Additionally, the men won the RMAC and South Central Championships while the women took second in both races. He helped with the development of nine total USTFCCCA All-Americans, the RMAC Runner of the Year and the RMAC Freshman of the Year.

Schneider was a two-sport athlete for Mines from 2011-16, competing in cross country and track & field. His prolific student-athlete running career featured seven All-America awards between cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. Schneider brought home three of the accolades in cross country, finishing as high as 20th in the nation in 2012. In 2015 and 2016, Schneider was an All-American in the indoor 5,000-meter run. He was also an outdoor All-American in the 10K in 2013 and 2015. Additionally, Schneider ran on the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championship Cross Country team that brought Mines its first national crown in any sport.
