Tony McCall

One of the most successful coaches in the history of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Tony McCall joined the Mines coaching staff as the program's top assistant for the 2026 season.

The longest-tenured and winningest head coach in program history at Regis University, McCall retired from his position as head coach of the Rangers in the fall of 2021.
During his time leading Regis, McCall posted an overall record of 132-64-17 (.659) in 12 seasons while going 99-39-13 (.698) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play with 11 trips to the RMAC Tournament and four trips to the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship. In eight of his 12 seasons, Regis posted double figure win totals and recorded 13 or more wins six times, including five consecutive seasons from 2010-14.
 
In 2011, McCall led Regis to the program’s first appearance in the NCAA Tournament behind a mark of 14-3-4. In 2011 with a record of 13-4-1, the Rangers ranked seventh in Division II in both goals scored (46) and shutouts (10). In 2012, RU attained the program’s first-ever #1 ranking won the RMAC regular season championship and became the second team in league history to post an undefeated season with a record of 14-0-0. RU was the #1 seed in the NCAA South Central Region and advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 17-2-1 overall record that included an 18-match unbeaten streak. In 2013 the Rangers repeated as RMAC Champions and hosted the NCAA South Central/West Super Regional on their way to the Elite Eight with a record of 14-4-1.
 
A native of Northern Ireland, McCall got his first coaching position at NCAA Division I University of South Alabama in Mobile, where he was the assistant coach from 1987-93. During his time in Mobile, McCall coached three NSCAA All-Americans and helped the Jaguars win the Sun Belt Conference Championship in 1991 and 1992. Prior to moving to Denver, McCall was the head coach at NCAA Division I Stetson University in Deland, Florida, from 1993-98. McCall won 34 games in five seasons at Stetson, including an 11-8-1 record in 1997. 
 
McCall served on the Board of Directors for the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA), which is the largest coaches’ organization in the world regardless of sport, for six years. He was on the board of the nearly 20,000-member association from 2003-09. McCall also sat on the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer Rules Committee, and served on the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer South Central Region Advisory Committee.
 
An accomplished player, McCall represented Northern Ireland at both Schoolboy U15 and Youth International U18 levels a total of 18 times. He began his career playing in the Irish League for Ballymena United FC, where he garnered personal accolades during the 1979-80 season that included being named Northern Ireland’s PFA Young Player of the Year and
Northern Ireland Sports Writers Young Player of the Year. Following his time with Ballymena United, he also played for Glentoran FC, Cliftonville FC and Larne FC. His career was prematurely ended with Larne at age 23 due to a knee injury.

As an 18-year-old, McCall was one of the youngest Irish League players to ever play in the UEFA Cup where he lined up for Ballymena United twice against East German side FC Vorwaerts. In 1981, McCall was also in the squad that faced off against Italian giant AS Roma in the UEFA Winners Cup. 

McCall holds a UEFA "A" License, Irish Football Association (IFA) “A” License, NSCAA Premier Diploma, USSF National Youth License and a USSF Pro-B License.
