Rob Thompson has served at Mines since 2004, currently as the Assistant Athletic Director and Director of Recreation Sports.
A native of North Ridgeville, Ohio, Thompson served his first nine nine years at Mines as the Director of Outdoor Recreation at Colorado School of Mines before taking on oversight of the entire rec sports program and the Student Recreation Center.
Thompson earned his B.S. in Education from Bowling Green State University in 2001 before earning his M.S. in Education in 2004, also at BGSU.
Thompson played an integral role in the design and implementation of the climbing wall in the Colorado School of Mines Student Recreation Center as well as the entire Outdoor Recreation Department, including leading students on trips to parts of Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Costa Rica as Director of the ORC.
He has served as the Chair of the Colorado School of Mines Administrative Faculty Council (AFC) and earned the CSM Connected Learning Community Award from the AFC.
Outside of his duties at Mines, Thompson has also worked as an instructor for the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), which trains astronauts and Navy Seals in addition to everyday citizens in outdoor environments.
He and his wife, Julie, and their children, Joss and Finley, reside in Golden.
