Mines Wrestling Cruises Past Mavericks, 45-3

GOLDEN – The Colorado School of Mines wrestling team posted four falls while nine of 10 wrestlers captured victories during a 45-3 rout of visiting Northwest Kansas Tech on Saturday afternoon at Volk Gynmasium in Golden. 

Mines (3-4) recorded three pins and one technical fall during the dual, with the pins coming from Colby Watters (133), John Crowley (157) and Justin Frazer (165). 

Crowley's fall was his team-leading 21st victory of the season which runs his record out to 21-5 during his first collegiate campaign. Frazier needed just 34 seconds to record his fall, while Watters captured his just before the end of the first period.

Watters and Frazier upped their records to 14-8 with their set of victories, while Paul Wilson's 6-5 decision victory over Andrei Melnic in the 197-pound bout was his 10th straight. 

Senior Ryan Swanson pushed his record to 18-9 on the season with a 13-4 major decision over Miguel Montelongo in the 184-pound bout while redshirt sophomore Alec Bird jumped up to the 285-pound weight class and closed out the dual with a 19-4 technical fall victory. 

The Orediggers will be back in action tomorrow when the team travels to Greeley for a 2 p.m. dual with Northern Colorado.
