DURANGO, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines was unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss at Fort Lewis on Sunday, October 23.
Even with the loss, Mines (8-5-3, 7-3-2) still punched a ticket to the RMAC Tournament with CSU-Pueblo's loss to Regis on Sunday.
A near miss for Mines at 8' came back to haunt them as Fort Lewis' Churchill Omumonu didn't miss on his attempt less than two minutes later. Dana Kowacheck worked down the right side of the field and sent a pass back to center of the box where Onomonu deposited his eighth goal of the season.
Trevor Amann came close to equalizing the game at 35', but FLC's Eliot Chadderton denied him to give his team the lead at intermission.
The Orediggers came out of the halftime break with a sense of urgency as
John Haist put back-to-back shots on goal within seconds of each other in the 51'. Unfortunately, both attempts were denied by the Skyhawks.
Mines continued to fire in shots, but each time they were turned back by FLC's Chadderton.
Nikolaus Grotz was turned back twice (83', 87') and Amann (84') was denied as well as the Orediggers suffered a rare shutout.
