How It Happened
Trevor Amann's second hat trick of the season sent Colorado School of Mines men's soccer past Colorado Christian 6-0 on Wednesday, October 26 at Stermole Soccer Stadium.
Mines (9-5-3, 8-3-2) thoroughly dominated the action as they outshot CCU 36-8, and got a gem of a performance from their fantastic freshman.
After a fairly lackluster open to the game, Mines finally broke the scoreless deadlock in the 34'. It was then that freshman forward
Trevor Amann drove into the right side of the box confidently and buried his first goal of the game into the left corner of the net.
Then, with five minutes left until intermission,
Matthew Summerfield put the Orediggers up 2-0 when he buried a chip shot at the near post after a fantastic run by
Ryan Blarr to set him up.
Now up 2-0, Amann cemented his stellar performance with a pair of goals within six minutes of each other. First, in the 54', Amann buried an easy goal that was set up on a
Nikolaus Grotz counter-attack. Then, in the 60', he completed the hat trick when he booted in a howler from 35 yards out.
Even with a 4-0 advantage, the Orediggers kept attacking and it paid off twice more before the final whistle. In the 80'
John Haist got in the action when he juked a pair of defenders in the box and netted his sixth goal of the season.Â
The final goal came with 117 seconds left when
Mans Hofvander found the back of the net for the first time in his career off a
Preston Migaki cross.
