DURANGO, Colo. -
Haley Cole's second-half goal spurred #10 Colorado School of Mines to a 1-0 win at Fort Lewis, putting Mines on the doorstep of the RMAC title.
The Orediggers (15-2, 9-2 RMAC) would claim at least a share of their fourth consecutive RMAC regular-season title if they can win Sunday at Adams State. Should CSU-Pueblo drop points either tonight against UCCS or Sunday at Western State, Mines could win the title outright.
Mines had two dangerous chances in the first half with Cole putting a ball across the goal mouth that was just out of reach of
Anna Deleray at 29', and Deleray fired inches over the bar at 39' from
Peyton Sanders' run.
The Orediggers repelled a period of Skyhawk pressure early in the second half, and built up the momentum through the middle of the period. A foul 35 yards from goal gave the Orediggers a chance, and
Emily Garnier dropped a ball inside the six that bounced off a defender and to Cole's head for the score at 70'.
Kaylee Kennedy nearly made it 2-0 in the closing moments, but forced FLC goalkeeper Kaylee Mickens to make a diving stop at the post.
