GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines clicked in every phase of the game as they beat Chadron State 40-14 for their fifth straight win.
The Orediggers (7-2, 6-2 RMAC) produced 644 yards of offense spurred by
Justin Dvorak's 30-of-41, 384-yard, five-touchdown day.
Riley Hoff compiled 136 receiving yards while the rushing attack, led by
Sam Seeton's 148 yards, produced 260 yards in all.
The Mines defense generated four turnovers, including interceptions by
Chris Brockman,
Drew Stephon, and
Dean Wenger and
Michael Kelso's recovery of
Nicola Lonardo's forced fumble. Chadron was held to 303 yards of offense, including only 98 rushing yards.
The win keeps Mines in the hunt for the RMAC title with two games to go, leaving them as one of three two-loss teams in the league.
Mines struck first with a 97-yard drive on their second series. Hoff's 60-yard catch set up
Brody Oliver's one-yard touchdown catch, and
Zach Richter found himself wide open on their next drive to complete a 50-yard touchdown bomb from Dvorak and take a 13-0 lead.
Wenger took advantage of
Jalen Champagne's tip to haul in his interception at the start of the second, and that let
Dane Arakawa haul in a 24-yard pass from Dvorak to go up 20-0. The Eagles' only score before halftime came late in the half as Jackson Dickerson hauled in Matt Vinson's 16-yard pass, but Mines tacked on another touchdown before the break thanks to Oliver's 18-yard grab.
The Orediggers opened the second half with a nine-yard
Ty Young touchdown, then added a fourth-quarter score when
Cameron Mayberry hit a hole and went 19 yards to capitalize on Kelso's fumble recovery. Cody Paul's four-yard rush on an option pitch gave the Eagles a late consolation score.
