THE MINES-ADAMS STATE SERIES
Adams State holds a 34-30-2 edge in the all-time series that has been played every year but two since 1947. Mines has won eight of the last nine and is 13-2 against Adams State since 2001.

WEEK 9 REWIND
Mines clicked in every phase of the game as they beat Chadron State 40-14 for their fifth straight win last Saturday. The Orediggers produced 644 yards of offense spurred by Justin Dvorak's 30-of-41, 384-yard, five-touchdown day against the RMAC's #1 passing defense. Riley Hoff compiled 136 receiving yards while the rushing attack, led by Sam Seeton's 148 yards, produced 260 yards in all. The Mines defense generated four turnovers, including interceptions by Chris Brockman, Drew Stephon, and Dean Wenger and Michael Kelso's recovery of Nicola Lonardo's forced fumble. Chadron was held to 303 yards of offense, including only 98 rushing yards.

IN THE RANKINGS
After five straight wins, Mines received 35 votes in this week's AFCA coaches' poll. The second release of the NCAA regional rankings was also kind to the Orediggers as they bumped up two spots to fifth in Super Region 4 as the top-ranked RMAC team (Colorado Mesa was ninth). The top seven teams in the final rankings make the NCAA Tournament field.

THE RMAC RACE
With three games left, there remains a three-way logjam of two-loss teams atop the RMAC standings. Colorado Mesa is 7-2 while Mines and CSU-Pueblo are 6-2. Mesa ends with South Dakota Mines and their non-conference game against GNAC champion Azusa Pacific (whose only loss came to Mines earlier this year), Pueblo ends with Dixie State and Chadron State, and Mines ends with Adams State today and Black Hills State next week. In the event of a tie, co-champions are declared, meaning two wins for Mines gets them at least a share of the title; Mesa could also clinch a share with a win over South Dakota Mines.

LEADING THE WAY
Entering Week 10, Mines leads the nation in both total offense (566.3 yards per game) and passing offense (387.7 yards per game). Mines' 264 first downs are a D-II best and they are third in third-down conversions (59%), and fourth in scoring offense (45.8).

DVORAK CONTINUES ASSAULT ON THE RECORD BOOKS
Quarterback Justin Dvorak continues to set records, becoming the RMAC career leader in total offense last week with 13,320 yards. Dvorak already owns the RMAC passing touchdowns record (120) and is 698 yards from the RMAC passing yardage mark. With 39 passing touchdowns, Dvorak has tied the Mines and RMAC single-season record of 39. This season, he has established himself as a top candidate for the Harlon Hill Trophy, leading the nation with 3,417 passing yards, 3,654 yards of total offense, 39 passing touchdowns, and 45 total touchdowns.

NO ONE BETTER
Justin Dvorak's stats aren't just historic by Mines standards - they're historic nationally. Dvorak is the active leader in all of college football in career passing yards (12,299), touchdown passes (120), and total offense (13,320).

OLIVER SHATTERS RECORDS
Brody Oliver continues to produce receiving numbers unlike any that have been seen at Mines. The redshirt sophomore has caught a Mines-record 20 touchdowns, which leads every division of college football and is two away from setting the RMAC single-season record. Oliver has caught an NCAA D-II-best 1,197 yards with eight 100+ yard games, and he now stands 180 yards from the Mines single-season yardage record.

CHOICES, CHOICES
Oliver hasn't been the only target for Dvorak by any stretch. Last week, Riley Hoff led Mines with eight catches for 136 yards, and Zach Richter is second on the team with 55 catches. Ty Young has nine touchdowns for 645 yards as a deep threat, and Dane Arakawa caught his first career touchdown against Chadron State as well. Both Oliver and Young rank inside the national top 20 in receiving touchdowns.

RUN GAME PRODUCING
One reason for the Orediggers' five-game win streak: the run game. After averaging only 118.5 yards over the opening six games, Mines has popped off rushing days of 369, 268, and 260 yards. Sam Seeton has compiled three straight 100+ yard games, averaging 119.3 yards per game in that span, and Zac Guy is averaging 8.7 yards per carry in his last three games.

TIMELY TAKEAWAYS
Mines' defense produced four turnovers last week against Chadron State and is now +8 on turnovers for the season. Mines is especially good in crunch time, generating eight fourth-quarter turnovers this year, including in each of the last five games. Last week, it was Nicola Lonardo punching out a fumble for Michael Kelso to fall on.

BALL HAWKING
Speaking of turnovers, Mines has produced 14 interceptions this season, with five coming from Drew Stephon, who has recorded a pick in three consecutive games. Dean Wenger snagged his third of the year last week and Jalen Champagne has two; seven different Orediggers have an interception this year.

CAN'T KEEP THEM DOWN
Mines has been one of the best teams in the country this year on third down, ranking third in D-II with a 59.0 percent conversion rating. As a result, Mines is also the best first-down generating team in D-II, ranking first with 264 this season.

SCOUTING ADAMS STATE
The Grizzlies are 1-7 as they look to snap a four-game losing streak. ASU scored 26.9 points per game while allowing 43.3, including giving up 558 yards of offense per game. Quarterback Jorge Hernandez has put up some solid numbers with four straight 300+ yard games, throwing for 1,914 yards and 13 touchdowns. Phil Romero (584 yards, 6 TDs) and Chad Hovasse (549 yards, 6 TDs) have been his top targets, while Corey brown (556 yards, 2 TDs) leads the run game. Defensively, Tim Brown Jr. leads the team in tackles (54) and tackles for loss (6.0).

LAST YEAR VS. ASU
Big-play defense helped Mines to a 28-20 win over Chadron State last season. Jeff Grenfell '16 sealed the win with his late interception as Mines had four picks overall. Sam Seeton ran for 133 yards and a touchdown while Justin Dvorak threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns. Chadron pounded out 277 rushing yards.

NEXT TIME
The Orediggers will end the regular season next Saturday at Black Hills State.
