Box Score LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Colorado School of Mines opened up the floodgates in the second half, scoring six goals after the break to beat Colorado Christian 7-0 in their RMAC opener.
Freshman
Trevor Amann had a brace for his first two collegiate goals and
Matthew Summerfield and
Tyler Mertens added their first career strikes in the rout.
John Haist,
David Boldt, and
Ford Edwards also found the net.
Mines (1-2-1, 1-0-0 RMAC) was unlucky not to take more from the first half as they held a 20-3 shots advantage.
Jason Zobott had a big early chance that was cleared off the line by CCU defender Clay Katzman, and another shot by Haist was cleared off by Cobey Berto moments later. The Orediggers continued to dominate possession in the half until a late corner kick opportunity for
Nikolaus Grotz found the head of Haist, who drove it home with 1:23 left in the half.
Mines' finishing improved in the second half, to say the least. Amann's first came off a
Jackson Shelledy assist at 54', and Boldt made it 3-0 on the hour when he blasted a shot from 25 yards out off Edward's assist.
Edwards got in on the scoring with a redirected header from
Ryan Blarr's forward pass at 71', and Summerfield, after earlier being taken down to deny a breakaway, got his deserved goal off
Mans Hofvander's pass at 81'. Mertens replaced Summerfield after the goal and wasted no time, shooting with pace on his first touch from
Adam Fox to make it 7-0 only 29 seconds later.
