GOLDEN, Colo. -
Emily Townsend's golden goal 57 seconds into the second overtime broken a scoreless deadlock and sent #5 Colorado School of Mines to a 1-0 win over Regis.
The Orediggers (6-0-0, 2-0-0 RMAC) extended their best start since 2011 with the win, ramping up the pressure in the second half and overtime before Townsend found the breakthrough.
Mines drew an early corner opportunity in the second extra frame, and
Emily Garnier whipped a kick to the six that Townsend headed down to the left post and in.
Mines had several chances to score in the second half, including a rip by
Nicole LaTourette at 56' that forced a diving save from Kat Crump, and a dropping free kick by
Cari Smith went just over the bar at 80'. Regis' best scoring chance of the game came in the 87th minute when Catherine Anger curled a right-footed shot left of the post.
