Bailey's Monster Night Not Enough at #10 CSU-Pueblo

PUEBLO, Colo. – While Emily Bailey turned in a monster performance, it wasn't enough as Colorado School of Mines came up short in their upset big at #10 CSU-Pueblo, 83-74.

Bailey scored a career-high 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her second career double-double, but it wasn't enough as Mines (11-11, 7-6) was unable to slow down the Thunderwolves (19-0, 13-0) in the final period. Trailing 64-56 entering the fourth quarter, CSU-P outscored the Orediggers 29-13 down the stretch to stave off the upset bid.

Pueblo's Molly Rohrer poured in game-high 32 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Tuileisu Anderson had 21 points in the barn burner. Rohrer was the down the stretch as she scored 17 points in the dramatic fourth quarter.

After initially falling behind 10-4 early in the first quarter, the Orediggers battled back to tie the game at 12 apiece after back-to-back made three-pointers from Elizabeth Tomon and Emily Bailey. The Thunderwolves responded to the Mines run with a 9-3 one of their own to stake a 21-15 advantage by the end of the period.

The trading of runs continued into the second quarter, and this time it was Mines' turn to respond. Down 23-18, the Orediggers powered into the lead for the first time with a huge 11-1 sprint that was keyed by Bailey and Laura Tyree.

CSU-P once again answered back though as they peeled off seven straight points before both teams traded the lead back-and-forth en route to a slim, 35-34, Thunderwolves lead at the break.

Out of the break, both team's offenses were humming as they seemingly traded bucket-for-bucket with each other through most of the third quarter.

Tied at 51-51 with 3:33 left in the third period, Mines started to attack the paint with determination as they went to the free throw line six times and Emily Bailey, Laura Tyree and Cassidy made layups to push the lead to 61-54.

That score remained through the two and half minutes of the fourth quarter until Pueblo's Molly Rohrer made a jump shot, but Emily Bailey came right back and drilled her fifth three-pointer to put Mines back up by eight, 64-56.

The Orediggers continued to keep the lead for most of the quarter, but the Thunderwolves weren't going to be denied as they finally came all the way back and tied the game at 71 with three minutes to go behind Rohrer's career outing. CSU-Pueblo then took the lead for good 30 seconds later as they slowly pulled away to spoil Mines' upset bid.
