GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines ended their home dual schedule with a 40-0 loss to Western State Colorado University on Saturday.
After the match Mines honored its four seniors -
John Crowley,
Jacob Gerken,
Justin Ray, and
Austin Saunders - following their final career home dual.
Western State was tough all night long starting from 125 pounds as #3 Ronnie Wardleigh earned a 15-0 tech fall over
Matt Lavengood. Tyler Hanenberg kept it going with a tough 6-3 decision over
Noah Au-Yeung at 133, and Seth Rich decisioned
Justin Ray 7-4 at 141. Ian Steed picked up Western's second tech fall with a 19-3 win over
Jake Woods, who was wrestling up a weight at 149, and Shawn Beiriger won 11-6 over
Ethan Ruby at 157.
The match of the night was an action-packed 165-pound bout between
John Crowley and Travis Bradford. The pair each scored takedowns in the first period with Crowley adding a reversal, then again traded takedowns in the second before a third-period takedown made the difference for Bradford as he won 12-10.
WSCU ended with three straight major decisions and a forfeit as Brandon Supernaw beat
Robert Gambrell 18-7 at 174, Konnor Schmidt won 16-3 over
Ben Krantz at 184, and Ben Price was a 15-3 victor against
Brandon Saunders at 197.
