GOLDEN, Colo. - An early MSU Denver goal held up as they beat #20 Colorado School of Mines 1-0 on Sunday, dealing the Orediggers their first RMAC loss of the season.
Despite the result, the Orediggers (7-3, 5-1 RMAC) remain two points clear at the top of the RMAC table ahead of Colorado Mesa, and three points up on the Roadrunners (4-6, 4-2 RMAC). The loss snapped Mines' seven-game win streak.
It was unlucky result as the Orediggers outplayed MSU Denver for long stretches of the game, outshooting the visitors 20-12 overall.
The Roadrunners struck in the eighth minute with a moment of quality by Nils Runnberg, who took a pass from Justin Glivar at the top of the box, turned with it, and put the deflected shot in the far post. The equalizer never came for Mines despite eight shots on goal, all saved by James Tanner, and an 8-2 lead on corner kicks. Mines was forced to play with ten men for the final 17 minutes after
John Haist was shown his second yellow of the game in the 73rd minute.
Mines heads across town to visit Regis Wednesday at 4 p.m.
