GOLDEN, Colo. - #15 Colorado School of Mines opened up the taps on offense to rout Adams State 6-1 on Friday.
The Orediggers (10-3, 8-1 RMAC) stayed atop the RMAC standings with the win as
John Haist and
Trevor Amann each scored twice and
Ben Overholt and
Talon Stanley notched their first career goals.
Mines led 26-5 on shots, including 15-2 in the second half, and took 15 corners as they dominated all but a short stretch of the game.
Mines had all the momentum early, including six corners in the opening 10 minutes, and the offensive pressure paid off with two goals in less than two minutes. Stanley got Mines on the board with his first career strike in the 16th minute, taking a pass from Amann and turning for a spectacular 30-yard strike, and Amann made it 2-0 moments later, beating the goalkeeper from a superb pass by
Ford Edwards.
Adams State, however, swung things around at the end of the half, and their first corner of the game produced Leo Barba's goal in the 41st minute.
Mines poured it on in the second half, however, to put the game out of reach. Haist turned on Edwards' pass to make it 3-1 in the 61st minute, then cooly finished a penalty seven minute later after Amann was pulled down in the box. Amann then made no doubt with his second score in the 73rd minute, playing the counterattack with Stanley and beating the goalkeeper to the far post.
Overholt capped the win with the first goal of his career, finishing
Preston Migaki's assist in the closing minutes with a far-post strike.
Collin Hall made two saves to improve to 10-3.
Mines stays at home to take on Fort Lewis Sunday at noon.
