GOLDEN, Colo. -
Ashi Geberkidane's second-half goal lifted #15 Colorado School of Mines to a key conference win over Fort Lewis, clinching an RMAC Tournament berth in the process.
The win pushed the Orediggers (11-3, 9-1 RMAC) to five points clear at the top of the RMAC table with four games left to play. Mines is the first to earn a spot in the six-team postseason field.
Mines had the better run of form in the game, outshooting the Skyhawks 18-8, but it was Geberkidane's moment of quality in the 72nd minute that won it. A long
Jackson Shelledy throw-in was deflected in the box, falling to Geberkidane's feet for a well-struck finish from six yards out.Â
That provided a deserved lead for the Orediggers, who had pushed all game with multiple chances, including
Talon Stanley's early hit post.
Ryan Wilson, the reigning RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, proved critical to the win when he cleared FLC's only shot on goal, a chip by Ryan Lee, off the line in the 55th minute.
Collin Hall did not have to make a save in the shutout; Peter Byrne stopped five for FLC.
The Orediggers next hit the road in a flip of this weekend's action, visiting Adams State Friday and Fort Lewis Sunday.
