Haist, Amann Lift #15 Mines Late At Adams State

ALAMOSA, Colo. - Late goals by John Haist and Trevor Amann lifted #15 Colorado School of Mines to a 3-1 win at Adams State on Friday.

The Orediggers (12-3, 10-1 RMAC) kept firm control on first place in the RMAC standings with the win, assuring they'll be at least five points clear of any other team at the end of Friday with three matches left to play; Mines needs six points out of those matches to clinch the regular-season title. Mines has 30 points, with second-place Colorado Mesa at 22 and MSU Denver at 21; CMU and MSUD play each other on Sunday and again on Oct. 28.

Haist scored twice in the contest - his sixth multi-goal game of the year - to take his RMAC-leading total to 16 for the season, hitting Mines' first-half opener before putting the visitors ahead in the 80th minute. Amann tacked on a late insurance goal for his fifth of the year.

Mines led early as Haist struck in the 25th minute from Ben Overholt, but the lead lasted all of 12 minutess before Israel Varela finished from the six on Leo Barba's cross to knot it 1-1.

The teams were largely even from there until a late period of pressure by Mines resulted in the winner. Jackson Shelledy's throw-in found Haist for a redirection at 79:25, and Amann put back a rebound at 86:09 to assure the result.

Mines led 19-17 in shots in an active game at both ends. Collin Hall made six saves, with Austin Baumeister stopping seven for the Grizzlies (7-7-1, 4-6-1 RMAC).

The Orediggers continue their road trip with another match-up at Fort Lewis on Sunday at 1 p.m.
