Haist's 2OT Winner Powers #15 Mines At Fort Lewis

DURANGO, Colo. - John Haist's double-overtime winner capped a wild game to give #15 Colorado School of Mines a 2-1 win at Fort Lewis.

The victory puts the Orediggers (13-3, 11-1 RMAC) on the verge of the RMAC regular-season title, which they can clinch outright with a total of two points from their final two games. Mines tops the RMAC table with 33 points, with Colorado Mesa behind at 28.

Trevor Amann scored in the 78th minute to put Mines ahead, but FLC leveled on Hakeem Rabiu's goal with 1:12 left in regulation; the Skyhawks (7-5-4, 7-3-2 RMAC) hit the post twice in overtime, but Haist put back a rebound of his own crossbar hit with 3:49 left in the second overtime to win it and score his 17th goal of the season.

Collin Hall made nine saves in a spectacular effort with Peter Byrne stopping eight as FLC held an 18-17 shots edge. The Skyhawks also led 7-5 on corners.

It was a back-and-forth and at times nervy game as Fort Lewis arguably controlled the first half and Mines the second. Scoreless at the break, Mines broken through when Amann tapped in Jackson Shelledy's throw at 76:54, and that set off an offensive surge by Fort Lewis. Hall put a tip save of Max Fuentes' drive over the bar in the 82nd minute before Rabiu finished from eight yards out on Ryan Lee's pass at 88:48; Haist had two chances to win it in the final minute, putting his first shot over the crossbar and then forcing a Byrne save at the buzzer.

Mines' best chance in the first overtime was a Ford Edwards free kick sent just right of the post, and Rabiu hit the post before Hall settled down the loose ball. In the second extra period, Amann and Nikolaus Grotz forced saves before Rabiu again hit the post for FLC; Mines then scored on a break as Edwards took a shot that was saved, and Haist hit the bar on the rebound before burying the third try from point-blank range.

It was the first overtime game of the season for the Orediggers.

Mines returns home for the final two games of the regular season, hosting CSU-Pueblo Thursday at 7:30 and UCCS Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
