#18 Mines Takes Down #16 Regis, 2-0

GOLDEN, Colo. - In a game with major regional implications, #18 Colorado School of Mines used two first-half goals to beat #16 Regis 2-0 in a non-RMAC game on Wednesday.

The Orediggers (11-2-1, 7-1-1 RMAC) handed the Rangers (10-2-2, 8-0-1 RMAC) only their second loss of the season after the two drew 1-1 earlier this season in their conference match-up. Mines entered the game at #3 in the first edition of the NCAA South Central regional rankings released earlier Wednesday, while Regis was #7.

Taylor McRae and Haley Cole did the damage for Mines, who outshot the visitors 14-5 and all but shut down any real offensive opportunities for the Rangers. McRae put Mines up in the 17th minute, playing the offsides trap to perfection to head in Emily Garnier's midfield free kick; Cole picked out a loose ball to score in the 32nd minute.

Defensively Mines was sterling as Shannon Mooney had two saves to earn the shutout. Julia Coombs had five stops for Regis. The Rangers led 3-1 on corners.

Mines heads to Black Hills State on Friday for a 7 p.m. match.
