DALLAS -
Jennifer Kendall's golden goal 7:18 into overtime sent Colorado School of Mines into the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second straight season, beating #15 Dallas Baptist 2-1.
The Orediggers (17-3-1) won in overtime for the second straight game, and now advance to face the winner of Sunday's West Texas A&M-UCCS contest next weekend at the West region's highest remaining seed, either top-seeded UC-San Diego or second-seeded Western Washington. The game date and time will be announced Monday.
It was the second time in three days that Mines had to work overtime after outplaying their opponent in regulation as they outshot DBU (15-4-2) by a 15-3 margin in the first 90 minutes. The Orediggers rode a dream start by Lindsey Tornabene, who headed home
Devon Dunmire's rebound at 2:28 to snare an early lead.
The Patriots' equalizer came against the run of play in the 75th minute thanks to Abigail Olmos, and that forced overtime as Mines managed only one more shot in regulation. In the extra period, DBU had an early corner amount to nothing, but Mines' corner in the 98th minute resulted in the winner as
Nicole LaTourette fed Kendall for her ninth of the season and first career NCAA goal.
The Orediggers went to overtime in NCAA play for the 11th time since 2009; they are 4-0-7 in those games.
