GOLDEN, Colo. - Colorado School of Mines held off East Central, 59-55, behind
Nicole Archambeau's double-double in a non-conference game on Black Friday.
The Orediggers (3-2) received Archambeau's third straight double-double as she hit a career-high 23 points with 11 rebounds, while
Emily Bailey scored 13.
Raven Herrera Williams was a spark off the bench with seven points, eight rebounds, and three steals as Mines forced 17 Tiger turnovers.
It was a game of quarters as ECU (1-2) led 13-7 after a slow-shooting first period for both teams. Mines had a big second quarter, however, outscoring the Tigers 18-9 to lead 25-22 at halftime.
East Central began the second half on a 9-0 run to lead 31-27, but Mines would wrest control back with a 15-2 stretch that included five points from Herrera williams, making it 44-36 with 1:30 left in the third.Â
ECU wouldn't go away, however, and used a 14-2 run around the end of the third and start of the fourth to erase Mines' eight-point lead and go up 50-46. It was back-and-forth from there with four ties in the fourth quarter, but Mines finally got back in front on back-to-back
Elizabeth Tomon layups late in the period. After Kendall Schulte's three-pointer tied it 55-55 with 40 seconds left, Bailey went to the line and hit two free throws, and Schulte and Madison Nickens missed at the other end in the final seconds before sending Archambeau to the line. She made both with a second remaining to seal the win.
Mines shot 31.7 percent for the game, including 14-of-19 at the line. ECU sank nine three-pointers (9-for-29) and shot 35.7 percent overall but was largely kept off the charity stripe, going 6-for-9.
The Orediggers conclude non-conference play Saturday, hosting Pittsburg State at 5 p.m.
