#6 Mines Moves To 8-0 With Win At Regis

DENVER - A second-half comeback spurred by Luke Schroepfer's 28 points carried #6 Colorado School of Mines over Regis, 69-58, in a battle of the RMAC's two remaining unbeaten teams.

The Orediggers (8-0, 2-0 RMAC) shot 65.4 percent and sank five three-pointers in the second half to outscore Regis 43-25. Head Coach Pryor Orser earned his 300th career win with the victory; he is 300-173 since 2001 on the bench for Mines.

The Rangers, who received votes in this week's NABC top-25 poll, suffered their first loss to drop to 6-1.

Schroepfer was on fire from the outside, sinking 10 of his 18 shots and six of his 12 three-point attempts (four in the second half) to tally his 28 points. Ben Sonnefeld scored 13 and dished out four assists, and the rest came from a distributed scoring effort including nine from Michael Glen and six by Duke Douglas

Jarrett Brodbeck and Christian Little had 16 apiece for the Rangers, who led 33-26 at halftime but shot only 34.8 percent in the second half.

Regis led much of the first half, and ended on a 9-2 run to turn a tie game into their halftime lead. Mines came out of the break on fire, however, using an 11-2 run to open the half to erase the deficit and seize the momentum early. It stayed tight over the next 10 minutes, and Regis retook the lead briefly on Brodbeck's three-pointer at the 7:52 mark, but Schroepfer went off after that, hitting three straight three-point attempts to spark an 11-3 run before Glen's long ball with 2:25 left all but sealed it up at 66-57.

Mines held Regis to only a single field goal and three total points in the final five minutes of the game to secure the win.

The Orediggers return home Friday to host Black Hills State.
