WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Colorado School of Mines picked up its first win of the season as it combined three pitchers to shutout Newman 7-0 at the Midwestern State Round Robin.
Freshman
Claire Stringfellow picked up her first career win in the circle as
Katie Leiker,
Kara Jones, and
Pua Fujinaga each drove in a pair of runs. Mines allowed only three hits in the game while generating nine and taking advantage of a pair of Newman errors.
Maddie Rogers got the start and pitched two innings of two-hit ball, departing after facing one batter in the third. Stringfellow then tossed 4.0 terrific frames allowing only one hit with two strikeouts, at one point retiring six in a row as she faced two over her minimum.
Hallie Smith had a 1-2-3 seventh to close it out.
Meanwhile, the Mines bats backed up their pitchers. Mines got going in the fourth with
Clara Larson's RBI single to plate
Brielle Asato, and Leiker and Jones drove in runs in the sixth to make it 3-0. The Orediggers struck for four in the top of the seventh to seal it, with Fujinaga's two-run single starting the rally before Leiker and Jones again went back-to-back for RBIs.
