CHADRON, Neb. – Colorado School of Mines ran its win streak to four games as they earn an 84-73 victory at Chadron State.
Mines (15-11, 11-6) got a career-high 18 points from
Paige Husa and 16 points each from
Emily Bailey and
Cassidy Budge to hold off an upset-minded CSC squad (6-14, 6-11).
Much like last night, the game started out a little slow, but both teams' offense kicked it into gear by the end of the first quarter.
Behind
Emily Bailey's 12-point first half, Mines broke a 17-17 tie at the end of the first quarter and turned it into a 42-34 lead at halftime. The key to the advantage was an 8-2 run over the final 1:16 of the half which included Bailey's buzzer-beating jumper.
The third quarter boiled down to a series of runs as Chadron State used an early 7-2 run to get back within two points (46-44). Mines responded in kind with its biggest run of the game at 9-0 which pushed their lead to 11 (57-46). The Eagles came back once more though with a 9-3 push which narrowed the deficit to only five (60-55) as the game moved into the final period.
That push by CSC was extinguished by
Cassidy Budge as she drilled three-pointers in back-to-back possessions to put Mines back up by 11, 66-55, early in the fourth quarter. Those long range makes were essentially daggers as the Orediggers were able to maintain an 8-13-point lead the rest of the way en route to the 84-73 victory.
