Box Score GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - #14 Colorado Mesa's walk-off spoiled a comeback by Colorado School of Mines as the Mavericks won 8-7 in their series finale.
Mines (25-20 / 17-15 RMAC) scored twice in the top of the ninth to tie the game after erasing an earlier 6-0 deficit, but CMU's Tanner Nieslanik laid down a bunt single in the bottom of the ninth to win it.
Jace Selsor led Mines going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI at the plate.
The Orediggers had to climb out of a big hole after CMU hit smashed three home runs over the first two innings. Selsor hit a solo shot of his own in the fifth to start the rally, then began a big seventh inning with a single to plate
Mikey Gangwish.
Trevor Kehe drew a bases-loaded walk and
Logan Smith singled in Selsor before Lambert drove in
Griffin Jones to make it 6-5.
The Mavericks got a bases-loaded walk from Nieslanik to go back up 7-5 in the bottom of the seventh, but Mines made their final at-bat count.
Walter Pennington scored Kehe on a pinch-hit single in the ninth before Lambert reached on a fielder's choice to tie it up on
Logan Smith's run at 7-7. The Mavs walked off in the bottom half, however, as Andrew Contreras doubled and pinch runner Josh Shapiro moved to third and scored on Nieslanik's bunt.
Jake Ekstrom started and went 1.1 innings, with
A.J. Valerio throwing 4.2 innings of one-run relief.
Drew Burman (0-1) took the loss tossing the final 2.2 innings and allowing only the one run. CMU starter Taylor Prokopis went 6.1 innings and allowed three, with Jett Wodiuk giving up two runs and gaining no outs in the seventh, and Tyler Day (4-2) getting the win in relief.
Mines will finish the regular season next weekend, opening a series with Regis at home on Friday.
