THE RMAC POD
Mines travels to Grand Junction this weekend for an RMAC pod against Colorado Mesa and Colorado Christian. All games will be nine-inning contests as Mines takes on both teams on Friday, CCU on Saturday, and Mesa on Sunday.
IN THE STANDINGS
This weekend's pod will be crucial in the RMAC standings for the Orediggers, who are third at 9-7 in league play and 17-12 overall. Colorado Mesa is first at 14-2 in league play, riding a nine-game win streak, with Colorado Christian in seventh at 5-11 but starting to hit their stride with three wins out of their last four games.
IN THE POLLS
Mines holds steady in the NCBWA South Central regional poll at #10 this week. They are one of three RMAC schools along with Colorado Mesa (#5) and Regis (#7). West Texas A&M jumped over Angelo State for the top spot this week.
MARVEL RECORDS HIT #200, SMITH CLOSES IN
Senior centerfielder
Cody Marvel recorded his 200th hit last weekend against UCCS, becoming the eighth Oredigger to do so. Classmate
Logan Smith has a chance to be the ninth this weekend as he's sitting on 195 hits for his career. Sophomore
Jace Selsor is trying to join the century club as the first baseman has 90 career hits.
MORE MILESTONES
Speaking of
Logan Smith, he became Mines' career recordholder for runs scored two weeks ago at UT-Permian Basin, and now has 165. Â Marvel is also moving up a couple of career lists as he is a triple away from tying that program record of 14, and he sits fifth on the career RBI list at 130.
OUTSTANDING IN OUR FIELD
Mines enters the weekend as the RMAC's best defensive team, with a team fielding percentage of .972. Mines has committed a league-low 27 errors in 960 chances. The Orediggers are also one of the best teams in the league at holding off base stealers, with their .581 stolen-bases-against percentage ranking second.
Mikey Gangwish leads all RMAC starting catchers in SBA% at .438 - the only RMAC player with a sub-.500 rate as he's thrown out nine base stealers to only seven successful thefts.
GETTING IT STARTED
The top of Mines' order has been one of the best in th league this season as
Logan Smith,
Connor Lambert, and
Colton Wardle have combined to hit .360 with 89 runs scored and 70 RBI. Out of the lead-off spot, Smith is hitting .349 with a team-best .606 slugging percentage, while Lambert is batting .364 and has driven in 20 out of the second spot. Wardle ranks fourth in the RMAC in on-base percentage at .496, driving in a team-high 30 RBI and 15 walks from the three hole.
FRONT OF THE ROTATION
Mines senior
Tyler Thomas has been the Orediggers' ace this season, sporting a 3.79 ERA and 3-1 record in seven starts. Thomas has eaten up 40.1 innings - 11 more than any other Oredigger - and struck out 32 in that span. His ERA ranks sixth among RMAC starters .
