DENVER - Late strikes by
Jennifer Kendall and
Haley Cole gave #18 Colorado School of Mines a deserved 2-0 win at MSU Denver to kick off RMAC play.
The Orediggers (4-1-0, 1-0-0 RMAC) worked their fourth consecutive shutout as
Shannon Mooney made four saves to push her scoreless streak to 446 minutes. Mines dominated the flow of the game, outshooting the Roadrunners (1-4-0, 0-1-0 RMAC) by a 20-8 margin and 10-4 in each half.
Despite the dominating possession advantage, Mines' finishing was missing until the waning stages of the game. Kendall finally punched through in the 82nd minute, capitalizing on a sustained period of pressure that saw
Acacia Ortiz send a ball into the box that Kendall beat a pair of defenders to in order to score. Mines doubled the lead three minutes later when
Haley Cole was gifted a misplayed save of
Mickey Hostetler's long-range effort for an easy finish.
Taylor McRae was Mines' most active player offensively taking five shots, and Ortiz and
Brooke Stoermer had four each. The Mines backline was superb, holding MSU Denver without a true scoring opportunity, with all four of Mooney's saves coming from long-range shots.Â
Mines stays local on Sunday, heading to Regis for a 1 p.m. start.
